Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch to be auctioned off

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Neverland Valley Ranch, owned by Michael Jackson, is to be sold at auction on March 19, 2008, unless Jackson pays over US$24 million.

Financial Title Company, the trustee of his Santa Barbara County, California, home and amusement park, has foreclosed on the property. They notified Jackson of the foreclosure and sale on Monday. Jackson had only just recently paid an overdue property tax bill of $600,000.

The court filing, addressed to Jackson, says, “You are in default of a deed of trust … Unless you take action to protect your property it may be sold at a public sale.” Fox News published the filing.

The foreclosure includes the ranch and all possessions on the property, inside or out.

The foreclosure auction will take place in front of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse in Santa Barbara. Jackson has until then to pay $24,525,906.61 he owes the title company.

In 2006, Jackson refinanced previous loans that had been bought up by Fortress Investment Group. The $300-million loan was secured with the aid of Sony Music Entertainment. However, the Neverland property was not part of that deal.

Jackson has not lived at Neverland since June 30, 2005, when he moved to Bahrain after a rape charge and subsequent acquittal.

American Idol winner Ruben Studdard wins lawsuit

Friday, June 16, 2006

Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has won a lawsuit and $2 million against his ex-manager Ronald W. Edwards and Edwards’ promotions company, Sez Inc. The lawsuit was for misappropriating the singer’s money and credit cards. The suit claimed Edwards misused more than $246,000 of the singer’s money. According to the judge’s ruling, Edwards stole money from Studdard’s checking and other bank accounts, improperly used his credit cards and even used Studdard’s money to repay a $10,000 bank loan.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Scott Vowell awarded Studdard $500,000 for actual losses and another $1.5 million in punitive damages. Vowell dismissed Edwards’ promotions company from the suit because it was bankrupt and had no money or assets. Edwards filed a petition for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on June 17, 2005. Studdard has sold 2.2 million records, but because of the damage done to his credit by Edwards, it is now even hard for Ruben to buy a home, said Vowell.

The Myths About Running A Background Check On Someone

People often have misconceptions about running a background check on someone. People may thing that it is a betrayal of trust or that it is unnecessary. Some people think the information is suspect or that criminals deserve a second chance. The potential expense intimidates many people into not even looking, or they think that it will take too long to get the results. The fact is that online access to information has made running a background check on someone a quick and easy process.

The idea that running a background check on someone is a betrayal of trust is built on faulty logic. If they are worthy of trust, then a background check will not show anything surprising. If the person in question has lied, then obviously they were not worthy of your trust. People have a right, and a responsibility, to protect themselves and their families. Information is the foundation on which protection is founded. By knowing as much as possible about the people you deal with regularly, you minimize risk factors. Many may think that their judgment of character is enough, but how many times has the news aired an interview with the neighbor of a criminal saying they never would have suspected, and what a good neighbor he seemed to be? The answer is too many times. It is nice to believe that evil carries a visible mark, but it is not the case.

For those that believe the information is suspect, keep in mind that the information is merely presented. It is up to the person buying the background check on someone to determine which information is probably the correct person. Many people have the same or similar names, and it is up to the purchaser to sort through the search results. While criminals certainly deserve a second chance, common sense should still be the guide. If your neighbor was a jewel thief it does not makes sense to tell them about your security measures.

Running a background check on someone is quick, easy and inexpensive. The Internet has made gathering public record data a simple matter for information brokers. At one time, a background check would have required many man hours and weeks to put together all of the information. Now, information brokers constantly update their information from a variety of public records sources. This allows them to offer the most updated information possible, for a very reasonable price.

Running a background check on someone can provide you with the necessary tools to make solid decisions. Know who your neighbors, co-workers and friends really are. It is important to know the people around you so that you can make the best possible choices. When you need a house sitter or emergency baby sitter, a background check and help you determine who is most trustworthy.
