According to current reports, sometime early this morning, an apartment building in Brittons Hill, Barbados fell into a cave below.

Five family members are known to be trapped in the collapse, although reports have not be made as to whether these are the only individuals involved. Rescue workers, as well as several prominent politicians are currently on the scene; two cranes have been deployed to remove debris. Evacuation has occurred, with an extension of this area being discussed.

Miami Dade Police arrived on the scene late Sunday night and are now in a joint effort with the Barbados Defence Force, Barbados Fire Service and Royal Barbados Police Force to rescue possible survivors. Prime Minister Owen Arthur also stated that surveys are currently being conducted to determine the stability of the surrounding area, and only after these reports have been compiled will residents know whether they will be able to return to their homes.

A cadaver dog was sent into the cavern and has identified two areas where there are possible dead bodies. Sadly it is no longer a rescue mission but recovery one.

Creative Hobbies For Women

By Jason Pillay

Hobbies are a great way to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. The hobby of your choice does not even have to be physically involving. Your choice should ultimately depend on your interest. But if you prefer to stay indoors and explore your creativity, here are some suggestions you may want to consider.

Scrapbooking is perfect for women who are naturally sentimental. Tell a story through photos and come up with a more interesting presentation. In this craft, you develop your creativity and resourcefulness. You do not have to buy all your materials; you can learn how to recycle and turn scraps into something beautiful.

Scrapbooking is a great way of preserving memories. You can create a scrapbook for special events in your life, for your spouse, children, family and even friends. When you work through these memories and live them for a moment, you can get rid of your worries and marvel at happy thoughts.

Card making is another craft that you may want to pursue. If you have a special skill with words, you can also come up with witty greetings for all occasions. With this activity, you can explore your creative side. And the fruits of your labor may even be useful as you can use these cards for birthdays or for the holidays. So you do not have to send them a generic card; they would even be more touched that you took your time into making a personalized card.

Women also have a natural penchant for accessories. And jewelries are a woman’s best friend. You can also attempt to learn to make some on your own. Start with simple bead work. You can buy a book or attend a class that can help you learn the basics of jewelry making until you are ready to experiment and come up with your own designs.

Just like the cards, jewelries make perfect gifts. As a matter of fact, some individuals start the craft as mere hobbies and eventually branched out into making profits from their designs. If you are looking forward to earning extra and you are particularly talented in this line, jewelry making present a great opportunity to meet your objective.

Pottery making is another example of a creative hobby you may wish to explore. It involves a great deal of concentration and that is a good mind exercise. If you are interested in the craft, you have to enroll in a short course. You may also need to invest a little in equipments. But when you learn the art, it will surely become worth the effort and hard work.

Bag and clothing designs are other activities that can help you discover your talent for fashion and the arts. These are other examples of hobbies you can turn to professional work or business. And there is certainly nothing that beats doing what you love to do and earning from it at the same time. So, explore your options and decide ultimately on what you can commit to.

Sweden’s Crown Princess marries long-time boyfriend

Monday, June 21, 2010

Sweden’s first royal wedding since 1976 took place Saturday when Crown Princess Victoria, 32, married her long-time boyfriend and former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36. The ceremony took place at Stockholm Cathedral.

Over 1,200 guests, including many rulers, politicians, royals and other dignitaries from across the world, attended the wedding, which cost an estimated 20 million Swedish kronor. Victoria wore a wedding dress with five-metre long train designed by Pär Engsheden. She wore the same crown that her mother, Queen Silvia, wore on her wedding day 34 years previously, also on June 19. Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, walked Victoria down the aisle, which was deemed untraditional by many. In Sweden, the bride and groom usually walk down the aisle together, emphasising the country’s views on equality. Victoria met with Daniel half-way to the altar, where they exchanged brief kisses, and, to the sounds of the wedding march, made their way to the the silver altar. She was followed by ten bridesmaids. The couple both had tears in their eyes as they said their vows, and apart from fumbling when they exchanged rings, the ceremony went smoothly.

Following the ceremony, the couple headed a fast-paced procession through central Stockholm on a horse-drawn carriage, flanked by police and security. Up to 500,000 people are thought to have lined the streets. They then boarded the Vasaorden, the same royal barge Victoria’s parents used in their wedding, and traveled through Stockholm’s waters, accompanied by flyover of 18 fighter jets near the end of the procession. A wedding banquet followed in the in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace.

Controversy has surrounded the engagement and wedding between the Crown Princess and Westling, a “commoner”. Victoria met Westling as she was recovering from bulemia in 2002. He owned a chain of gymnasiums and was brought in to help bring Victoria back to full health. Westling was raised in a middle-class family in Ockelbo, in central Sweden. His father managed a social services centre, and his mother worked in a post office. When the relationship was made public, Westling was mocked as an outsider and the king was reportedly horrified at the thought of his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he did so when he married Silvia. Last year, Westling underwent transplant surgery for a congenital kidney disorder. The Swedish public have been assured that he will be able to have children and that his illness will not be passed on to his offspring.

Westling underwent years of training to prepare for his new role in the royal family, including lessons in etiquette, elocution, and multi-lingual small talk; and a makeover that saw his hair being cropped short, and his plain-looking glasses and clothes being replaced by designer-wear.

Upon marrying the Crown Princess, Westling took his wife’s ducal title and is granted the style “His Royal Highness”. He is now known as HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. He also has his own coat-of-arms and monogram. When Victoria assumes the throne and becomes Queen, Daniel will not become King, but assume a supportive role, similar to that of Prince Phillip, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. He further stated, “Unfortunately, something that should not have happened has happened and our national interest is paramount and we have reported this position to the Ministry of Sports.” ((fa))Farsi language: ????????? ?????? ?? ????? ????????? ?????? ??? ? ????? ??? ?? ?? ?? ???? ?????? ???? ? ?? ??? ???? ?? ?? ????? ???? ?? ????? ?????.

IM Dorsa Derakhshani, who currently studies at Saint Louis University in the United States and plays for the United States Chess Federation, discussed her chess career, time in Iran and the 2017 controversy, and her life in Saint Louis with a Wikinews correspondent.

Getting Rid Of Infestations By Contacting A Rodent Control Company

byAlma Abell

Can you imagine getting up in the morning, walking into your kitchen to find a mouse scurrying across your floor or counter-top? You might open up a cabinet and find it filled with bugs that are getting into the containers of food you have stored there. Sometimes, no matter how clean you keep your house, you will have creatures that you do not want invading your space. The most important thing right now is to rid yourself of those pests before the problem gets worse. To do this, you will want to contact a company that does Rodent Control in your area.

A company like this will come out to your home and inspect it to see what the problem is. If there is any type of wildlife living within your home, they will trap them and dispose of them and any nests that they may be starting to build. Once they start building nests, your home can quickly be infested with more of them. Any type of infestation of bugs or rodents should be handled immediately because the longer you prolong treatment the worse your problem can become.

One such company, Triple AAA American Exterminators, will come out to the home, inspect the premises, find the source of the problem, and inform you of the best way to eliminate the problem. The chemicals that are used to fight off any invasion of pests, uses organic methods that are 100% safe for your family and pets. This will be handled as quickly as possible to stop any further infestations. This type of company is very knowledgeable about Rodent Control, helping to prevent a health problem to you and your family because of droppings and fur that are left behind by them.

No matter if you are infested by rodents, cockroaches, snakes or any other kind of bugs, you should contact an exterminator immediately for the safety of your family. This type of company can assist you whether the problem is in a home or business. No matter what the issue, the important thing is to get rid of the infestation as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the worse the problem will become, and the more chance that it will pose a health risk to you and your family. The safety of those you love is of utmost importance.

Wikinews interviews John Wolfe, Democratic Party presidential challenger to Barack Obama

Sunday, May 20, 2012

U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate John Wolfe, Jr. of Tennessee took some time to answer a few questions from Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn.

Wolfe, an attorney based out of Chattanooga, announced his intentions last year to challenge President Barack Obama in the Democratic Party presidential primaries. So far, he has appeared on the primary ballots in New Hampshire, Missouri, and Louisiana. In Louisiana, he had his strongest showing, winning 12 percent overall with over 15 percent in some congressional districts, qualifying him for Democratic National Convention delegates. However, because certain paperwork had not been filed, the party stripped Wolfe of the delegates. Wolfe says he will sue the party to receive them.

Wolfe will compete for additional delegates at the May 22 Arkansas primary and the May 29 Texas primary. He is the only challenger to Obama in Arkansas, where a May 10 Hendrix College poll of Democrats shows him with 38 percent support, just short of the 45 percent for Obama. Such an outing would top the margin of Texas prison inmate Keith Russell Judd, who finished 18 percent behind Obama with 41 percent in the West Virginia Democratic primary; the strongest showing yet against the incumbent president. Despite these prospects, the Democratic Party of Arkansas has already announced that if Wolfe wins any delegates in their primary, again, due to paperwork, the delegates will not be awarded. Wolfe will appear on the Texas ballot alongside Obama, activist Bob Ely, and historian Darcy Richardson, who ended his campaign last month.

Wolfe has previously run for U.S. Congress as the Democratic Party’s nominee. On his campaign website, he cites the influence “of the Pentagon, Wall Street, and corporations” on the Obama administration as a reason for his challenge, believing these negatively affect “loyal Americans, taxpayers and small businesses.” Wolfe calls for the usage of anti-trust laws to break up large banks, higher taxes on Wall Street, the creation of an “alternative federal reserve” to assist community banks, and the implementation of a single-payer health care system.

With Wikinews, Wolfe discusses his campaign, the presidency of Barack Obama, corporations, energy, the federal budget, immigration, and the nuclear situation in Iran among other issues.

Tips On Finding Steering Column Services

byadmin

If you are a car owner, then you know all too well how common repair issues are. Dealing with the repair issues you have right away is the only way to reduce the amount of damage done. The steering column on your vehicle allows you to change the direction if your car by turning your steering wheel. Just like any other part of an automobile, eventually the steering column will fail. Getting it replaced will require the help of professional steering column services. Finding the right service to handle this work can be much easier when thinking about the following factors.

How Long Have They Been Doing This Type of Work?

Finding out how long a business has been providing steering column services is important. Generally speaking, the longer a business has been fixing steering columns, the easier you will find it to get the comprehensive services you need. By going in and getting some estimates on the steering column work needed, you can get an idea of which company is the right fit for the repairs at hand. Doing a bit of research online is also a great way to find out what type of reputation a company has.

When Can They Have the Repairs Done?

When trying to narrow down the selection of available steering column services, be sure to find out how long it will take each company. The last thing you want is to be without your vehicle for an extended period of time due to the inconvenience it will cause. Most of the steering column services out there will be able to let you know how long it will take them to complete these repairs. Be sure to also ask each of the services in your area about how much they are going to charge for the steering column repair or replacement needed.

At BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision, you will have no problem getting the steering column services needed. Go to their website or call 303-227-1222 for more information on what they can do.

Published:Wednesday, September 7, 2005Updated:Saturday, September 10, 2005 (Travolta, Preston, Moore, Stones, Three Doors Down, Johnson, Smith)

After Hurricane Katrina passed across the United States, various artists and media stars have leapt at a call to action.

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston flew his private plane to deliver a load of supplies and tetanus vaccine to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Part of a Scientology project which has been using their non-massage “assists”, in an interview Preston mentioned that “auditing” had also been performed on victims.

Kevin Smith is holding an online auction on his Web site.

Sean Penn actually went to Louisiana. After loading down a small boat with his entourage, it was discovered one of them had neglected to seal a hole in the bottom. Penn was wearing a white vest rather than a life vest while bailing. After the motor wouldn’t start, the crew paddled down a flooded New Orleans street. Bystanders jeered at whether any victims could fit aboard the crowded craft. No report on rescue stunts. Local authorities had previously been criticized for not allowing volunteer boaters in to help.

Morgan Freeman, whose home fared well, is organizing an online auction of celebrity items at charityfolks.com, to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Curt Schilling opened his home to a family of nine driven out of their New Orleans home. The Schilling family will provide housing for the Fields for a year while their home in New Orleans is rebuilt and repaired.

Celebrities visiting New Orleans include Michael Moore (opposite side of lake), singer Harry Connick, Jr., CNN’s Anderson Cooper, actor Jamie Foxx, singer Faith Hill, actor Matthew McConaughey, singer Lisa Marie Presley, comedian Chris Rock, and The Oprah Winfrey Show contributor Lisa Ling and interior decorator Nate Berkus.
