Wikinews interviews John Wolfe, Democratic Party presidential challenger to Barack Obama

Sunday, May 20, 2012

U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate John Wolfe, Jr. of Tennessee took some time to answer a few questions from Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn.

Wolfe, an attorney based out of Chattanooga, announced his intentions last year to challenge President Barack Obama in the Democratic Party presidential primaries. So far, he has appeared on the primary ballots in New Hampshire, Missouri, and Louisiana. In Louisiana, he had his strongest showing, winning 12 percent overall with over 15 percent in some congressional districts, qualifying him for Democratic National Convention delegates. However, because certain paperwork had not been filed, the party stripped Wolfe of the delegates. Wolfe says he will sue the party to receive them.

Wolfe will compete for additional delegates at the May 22 Arkansas primary and the May 29 Texas primary. He is the only challenger to Obama in Arkansas, where a May 10 Hendrix College poll of Democrats shows him with 38 percent support, just short of the 45 percent for Obama. Such an outing would top the margin of Texas prison inmate Keith Russell Judd, who finished 18 percent behind Obama with 41 percent in the West Virginia Democratic primary; the strongest showing yet against the incumbent president. Despite these prospects, the Democratic Party of Arkansas has already announced that if Wolfe wins any delegates in their primary, again, due to paperwork, the delegates will not be awarded. Wolfe will appear on the Texas ballot alongside Obama, activist Bob Ely, and historian Darcy Richardson, who ended his campaign last month.

Wolfe has previously run for U.S. Congress as the Democratic Party’s nominee. On his campaign website, he cites the influence “of the Pentagon, Wall Street, and corporations” on the Obama administration as a reason for his challenge, believing these negatively affect “loyal Americans, taxpayers and small businesses.” Wolfe calls for the usage of anti-trust laws to break up large banks, higher taxes on Wall Street, the creation of an “alternative federal reserve” to assist community banks, and the implementation of a single-payer health care system.

With Wikinews, Wolfe discusses his campaign, the presidency of Barack Obama, corporations, energy, the federal budget, immigration, and the nuclear situation in Iran among other issues.

How To Make The Best Homemade Carp And Catfish Baits With The Best High Protein Ingredients!}

Submitted by: Tim F. Richardson

Protein has always seemed to be part of the key in carp bait success, but there is much confusion about which ingredients to use! The how and why of using whole and treated proteins to create world-class pre-digested, probiotic and prebiotic active homemade baits is absolutely vital to understand as much as possible to truly maximise your results! Read on and transform your catches right now!

Anglers have used protein as the basis of their baits ever since Isaac Walton using rabbit meat. The high protein milk protein bait cult of the seventies and early eighties only led more and more people to seriously think that whole proteins such as caseins were vital to big carp success. But there is far more to protein baits than using whole proteins!

In the earlier years of carp fishing for instance in the seventies when I began carp fishing, we used very simple seeming yet complex baits for carp called specials which were paste baits made predominantly and ironically enough, from many of the most often used bait ingredients today. The biggest difference in bait recipes back then was that most anglers used water in their baits. But then more and more people used eggs to bind their special pastes together as this relatively insoluble material made paste baits more durable and longer-lasting against pest fish.

Then the idea of heating paste baits really took off and instead of using paste baits which were normally anything from golf ball sized to even as big as an orange, the size of baits were dramatically reduced to usually under 25 millimeters in diameter. At the stage of using eggs and boiling baits, carp baits became known as boilies. At this stage and around this time many developments were manifesting which all led to huge breakthroughs in catching far more carp compared to simply doing things by more haphazard means. Carp fishing became far more methodical as more and more anglers did more and more methodical testing and research.

The milk protein approach of Fred Wilton spread far and wide and anglers found that using milk proteins such as soluble caseins to bind their baits meant that their baits were super-resilient against pest species and instead of using pastes and re-casting every 30 minutes, anglers were able to cast out and fish overnight knowing their baits would be usually intact if not taken by morning.

But the boiling of baits and the coagulating of globulin proteins in special pastes meant that the most vital parts of baits got locked up as they were made drastically less soluble, this defeating the primary action of baits i.e. to become solution and produce a very significant concentration gradient of feeding triggers, attractants etc in the water column!

The key to bait success is in the actual size of the molecules or bits of information that carp detect and respond to chemically and bio-chemically in different ways and in the ways that water reacts with such fine aspects of your bait in action. Baits work in solution. This is of paramount importance to understand. And this is the only way that carp can detect your baits other than at close proximity by vision or by audible means, or by subtle electrical means.

But chemically, carp detect the commonest substances found to be stimulatory to feeding responses by the interaction of the very fine parts of molecules interacting with proteins and ion channel surface ligands for instance in the olfactory system, where for instance a blend of amino acids in solution will activate the receptor in such a way to send signals to the brain of the carp in the appropriate area that triggers motion and feeding responses causing fish to seek the source of the dissolved substances they are experiencing.

They do this to determine if a stimulus is an opportunity or threat; carp baits can be both! Your purpose in creating baits is not to create a food source but to supply an incredibly potent true feeding stimulus which may indeed have beneficial factors for the fish, but primarily will ultimately get your hook into the mouths of fish (without satiating them!)

To supply a source of stimulation in enhanced ways truly maximised and optimised internally and externally is a fine art and takes testing and experience of levels combinations and so on, of ingredients, additives, enhancers, processes and so on. There are easy short-cuts however. Modern anglers seem to want ever faster short-cuts in the form of products off the shelf. But using these simply leaves the angler in the power of bait companies and their pricing policies and at the whim of ever changing fashions!

Originally high protein carp baits based around soluble milk proteins and hardened by soluble whey and caseins etc and bound with eggs were really thought of as the pinnacle of carp bait design. Anglers not using such high protein baits were actually not respected and regarded as ignorant! But it eventually transpired that the nutritional theories which led to the high protein bait revolution had many holes. For instance carp have only a limited capacity to digest and assimilate milk proteins beyond a certain point. Satiation is a major problem in using high protein boilies. How many eggs can you eat at any one time?

In fact in the early years of the original milk protein baits they were often simply pastes mixed with water which perhaps lasted half an hour on the hook. And in those days soft pastes where of course favourable because you could strike your hook point clear of a soft bait far more easily than if baits were hard! The use of all sorts of ingredients which bound baits up but made them hard really were in some ways more of an issue when boilies came along when the trend was to make very hard resilient baits.

One idea using baits high in caseins for instance was that carp would have to such much harder to take hook baits into the mouth and there would be a higher possibility of hooking fish this way using rock hard baits. This was of course in a context of the time, when far more baits were much softer and in paste form still.

These days the situation is reversed. The wary fish are far more easily caught on soft baits than smooth-surfaced machine-rolled hard boiled or steamed baits! Carp can easily sort the density and movement characteristics and other features and so on of hard baits even without touching them with their lips. They can waft then, fan them, even roll their flanks on them or lift them or fan them using fins. Carp can easily determine if a bait is suspiciously buoyant or too heavy due to weight of a hook, or if it is tethered in some way!

Most baits that get taken in the mouth which result in a hook up have been in and out of many mouths without those fish running, because so many fish simply spit hooks out without moving an inch from the position of sucking a bait in! Part of the way to defeat such fish is to leave boiled baits in lake water for 24 hours so that micro-organisms get to work breaking down the proteins in the bait, just as they would with free baits being put out and left for 24 hours on the lake bed.

Generally speaking most anglers are just too impatient to leave their hook baits out for 2 days. Therefore fish have been trained by anglers into the association that washed out baits are usually safe to consume!

But the interesting point here is that carp have also been conditioned to consume washed out baits because in fact these baits are more energy-efficient to consume compared to fresh baits! Baits are not strictly about food but are absolutely about stimulating true feeding responses!

You can have a really nutritionally-stimulating so-called food bait which carp are simply not willing to feed on because either they associate aspects of it with danger. Or carp may have simply been fed too much of it so they do not require the nutrition that standard methods of formulation and processing of readymade or homemade food baits supply!

There are very many situations on lakes where so many similar food baits have been used that the fish are predominantly too wary to feed on fresh food baits and really only feed on them with confidence once such baits have been on the lake bed for a considerable time. I mean enough time for microorganisms such as anaerobic bacteria to break down the more energy-draining aspects, the proteins down into free form amino acids, organic acids etc.

This energy short-cut of digestion is a crucial cornerstone of carp bait success. It is the difference between feeding fish and satiating them and creating a situation where your free baits are harnessed in real time induce the maximum number of takes possible. It is the difference between making very high protein milk protein boilies and fishing them fresh against such baits which have been partially pre-digested and cured. The difference in bait performance and catch results is enormous!

A number of anglers use monosodium glutamate as a taste enhancer in their baits. Basically this is an artificial salt form glutamate discovered by Karl Henrich Ritthausen by treating wheat gluten with sulphuric acid. Wheat gluten is a basic binder used in special paste baits before and around the time that eggs were first used by growing numbers of carp anglers to bind their baits.

Wheat gluten is an excellent binder but is not particularly digestible to carp and it locks up bait ingredients in a relatively insoluble matrix unfavourably (as do liquid and powdered egg also.) There are a number of superior materials to exploit instead of these!

Personally I avoid using eggs in any form as these lock up baits far too much. As wheat gluten is far less used these days it actually forms a valuable part of your bait making arsenal in binding baits without eggs. I personally prefer other materials but the reason I use wheat gluten here as an example is for the fact that the salt form of an amino acid, glutamic acid, has been acid-hydrolysed or split, from the whole protein, into the free form amino acid. This form of split protein, the amino acids and broken peptide linkages are the forms which carp readily detect even in relatively low concentrations! (Glutamic acid is a perfect example of a true feeding trigger!)

All proteins that you will use in your carp baits contain glutamic acid. And you can split or pre-digest or enzyme-treat or use hydrolysed forms of proteins to compose your baits and stimulate feeding by their high concentrations, and avoid the use of MSG which actually causes micro-bleeding at brain receptor sites (as does aspartame and aspartame-based artificial sweeteners such as Splenda!)

In order to make your food baits superior you need to split your protein ingredients as much as possible into their free form amino acids so you create a very significant excess of them in your baits. This aspect of your protein in your baits is what leaches out and stimulates true feeding!

Two of the most significant and superior carp bait ingredients are calcium caseinate (soluble casein) and enzyme-treated fish protein. There are many other hydrolysed, enzyme-treated materials that can be exploited, including keramine, hydrolysed keratine, enzyme-treated liver powder, and concentrated yeasts.

Some of the most used materials which are split using acids in the food industry to drastically improve flavour, taste, palatability and consumption are maize, rice, wheat, rapeseed, and various pulses (including soya.) Use this fact to stimulate your mind to consider possibilities of how to split aspects of your baits to seriously improve the feeding stimulation of your baits (beyond mere food bait digestibility factors!)

Feeding stimulation always must come first! Your baits must generate as many bites as possible as fast as possible in real time; that is vitally important to understand and to optimise and maximise in as many unique ways as you can! British Member of Parliament David Taylor dies

Sunday, December 27, 2009

David Taylor, the 63-year-old Labour Co-operative British Member of Parliament (MP) for North West Leicestershire, died yesterday from a sudden heart attack whilst walking in Calke Abbey, Derbyshire with his family. According to his website, he was taken to Queen’s Hospital, Burton in Staffordshire, but staff were unable to save him.

On their Twitter page, the Co-operative Party described his death as ‘devastating’. Kerry McCarthy, Labour MP for Bristol East, described him on her blog as ‘one of those MPs who could be described as a true parliamentarian’.

Taylor was elected MP in 1997, and was previously an accountant and computer manager. In 2007, he won the Commons Backbencher of the Year award. He was not going to stand for re-election.

2008-09 Wikipedia for Schools goes online

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Monday saw the latest edition of the vetted version of Wikipedia, which is aimed at educational use, go quietly online. The extensively revised version covers over five thousand topics, targeting the eight to seventeen years age group. Partnerships with the Shuttleworth Foundation and the Hole in the Wall project will see it distributed in South Africa and India as well as copies being available globally via the offices of SOS Children UK’s umbrella organisation, SOS Kinderdorf worldwide.

First launched in 2006 as a 4,000 article edition, the extract of Wikipedia has employed hi-tech distribution methods, as well as offering a website version which has steadily climbed up in ranking to above other reviewed Wikipedia rivals and copies; the 2007 version was available on the BitTorrent peer to peer network to keep distribution costs down and was equivalent to a fifteen-volume printed encyclopedia. Monday’s release is compared to a twenty-volume print edition.

Our goal is to make Wikipedia accessible to as many people as possible around the world, and SOS Children is a great partner that helps us make that happen.

Key to the process for selecting articles is the English National Curriculum and similar educational standards around the world. The initial vision was to bring this wealth of knowledge to schools where access to the Internet was poor or unavailable, but copies of Wikipedia for Schools can be found on many first world school intranets and web servers. Among the compelling reasons to adopt the project are the vetting and additional study materials which overcome the oft-publicised concerns many educators have with the million article plus Wikipedia that anyone can edit.

In today’s press release announcing the launch, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Sue Gardner expressed delight at seeing the project bring out a new version, “Our goal is to make Wikipedia accessible to as many people as possible around the world, and SOS Children is a great partner that helps us make that happen. Wikipedia is released under a free content license so that individuals and institutions can easily adapt, reuse and customize its content: we encourage others, like SOS Children, to do exactly that.”

Running 192 schools in the developing world, SOS Children sees Wikipedia for Schools as a key piece in fulfilling the educational aspect of their mission. SOS Children’s Chairwoman, Mary Cockcroft gave us an introduction and, a Wikipedia administrator himself, the charity’s CEO Andrew Cates spoke to Wikinews at length about the project.

You are part of SOS-Kinderdorf International, can you explain a little about how this works in terms of distributing funds raised in the UK and involving UK citizens in work outside the country?

Mary Cockcroft: SOS Children[‘s Villages] is a “club” of member charities in 130 countries helping orphans and vulnerable children. The club elects SOS-Kinderdorf International as secretary. SOS is a large organisation whose members in aggregate turned over $1bn in 2007, and whose projects include owning and running 192 schools and family-based care for 70,000 children. However much of these funds are raised locally, with for example the member charities in each of India, Pakistan and South Africa raise considerably more funds in their own country than SOS UK does from the UK. Nonetheless SOS Children UK principally raises funds to finance projects in the developing world, and has only financially small projects in the UK (such as the Schools Wikipedia, which is very low cost because of extensive use of volunteers). This year we expect about 80% of our UK income will leave the UK for overseas SOS associations, and some of the remaining 20% will pay for project oversight. We do not spend money in the UK on Direct Mail or TV advertising. Our UK office is involved in overseeing projects we finance and a small number of high-skilled volunteers from the UK help overseas. However around 98% of SOS staff worldwide are local nationals, as are most volunteers.

((WN)) How much work does the UK charity actually carry out within the home country? Are there failings within the government system for orphans and other needy children that you feel obliged to remedy?

MC: We are deeply unhappy about the situation of children in out-of-home care in the UK. However our care model of 168 hour-a-week resident mothers does not fit with the UK philosophy for children without parental care. Internationally SOS always has a policy of sharing best practice and we are working to improve understanding of our way of working, which appears to us to have far better outcomes than the existing one in the UK. Ultimately though the legal responsibility for these children lies with government and we cannot remedy anything without their invitation.

((WN)) Who first came up with the idea of doing a vetted Wikipedia extract? What was the impetus? Was it more for the developing world than first world?

Andrew Cates: I honestly cannot remember who first suggested it, but it came from somewhere in the Wikipedia community rather than from the charity. The original product was very much pitched at the developing world where the Internet is only available if at all over an expensive phone line. I worked in West Africa 1993-1996 and I know well at how thirsty for knowledge people are and how ingenious they will be in overcoming technical obstacles if the need for infrastructure is removed.

((WN)) In reading past year’s announcements there’s some pride in the project being picked up and used in the first world, was this expected or a pleasant surprise?

AC: It was a pleasant surprise. I don’t think we had realised what the barriers schools faced in using the main Wikipedia were. It isn’t just pupils posting material about teachers or meeting strangers: the “Random Article” button on every page could potentially deliver an article on hardcore porn. We had already started when discussion broke on banning Wikipedia from classrooms and I am sure we benefited from it.

((WN)) Can you give an outline of the selection and vetting process? Is it primarily Wikipedians working on this, or are people from the educational establishment brought in?

AC: It was a long and painful process, even with a really good database system. Articles were taken into the proposal funnel from three main sources: direct proposals for inclusion from Wikipedians, lists which came from the Release Version team and proposals drawn up from working through National Curriculum subjects by SOS volunteers. In a few cases where we felt articles were missing we asked the community to write them (e.g. Portal:Early Modern Britain, which is a curriculum subject, was kindly written just for us): These “proposals” were then looked at by mainly SOS volunteers (some onwiki, some offline). Our offices are in the middle of Cambridge and we get high quality volunteers, who skim read each article and then compared two versions from the article history by credible WP editors a significant period apart (this picks up most graffiti vandalism which runs at about 3% of articles). Once they had identified a “best” version they marked any sections or text strings for deletion (sections which were just a list of links to other articles not included, empty sections, sex scandals etc). A substantial sample of each volunteers work was then doubled checked for quality by one of two office staff (of whom I was one). We then have a script which does some automated removals and clean ups. Once we had a selection we posted it to relevant wikiprojects and a few “experts” and got any extra steers.

((WN)) Will you be making use of BitTorrent for distribution again this year? Was it a success in 2007?

AC: BitTorrent was a bit disappointing in that it got us the only substantial criticisms we received online. A lot of people find it too much effort to use. However for the period we offered a straight http: download we had huge problems with spiders eating vast bandwidth (the file is 3.5G: a few thousand rogue spider downloads and it starts to hurt). As per last year therefore our main two channels will be free download by BitTorrent and mailing the DVDs free all over the world. At a pinch we will (as before) put straight copies up for individuals who cannot get it any other way, and we have some copies on memory sticks for on distributors.

((WN)) Is it your opinion that the UK Government should be encouraging the adoption of projects like this as mainstream educational resources?

AC: Clearly yes. We have had a very enthusiastic reaction from schools and the teaching community. We think every school should have an intranet copy. We expect the Government to catch on in a few years. That is not to say that Wikipedia is as good as resources developed by teachers for teachers such as lesson plans etc. but it is a fantastic resource.

((WN)) You’re a Wikipedia administrator, all too often a thankless task. What prompted you to get involved in the first place? What are the most notable highs and lows of your involvement with the project?

AC: Funnily the thing I have found most amazing about Wikipedia is not widely discussed, which is the effect of Wikipedia policies on new editors. I have seen countless extreme POV new editors, who come in and try to get their opinions included slowly learn not only that there are other opinions to consider but that elements of their own opinion which are not well founded. Watching someone arrive often (on pages on religions for example) full of condemnation for others, gradually become understanding and diplomatic is one of the biggest buzzes there is. The downside though is where correcting things which are wrong is too painfully slow because you need to find sources. I was a post-doc at Cambridge University in combustion and I know the article on Bunsen burners has several really significant errors concerning the flame structure and flow structure. But sadly I cannot correct it because I am still looking around for a reliable source.

((WN)) Do you believe schools should encourage students to get involved contributing to the editable version of Wikipedia? Does SOS Children encourage those who are multilingual to work on non-English versions?

AC: I think older students have a lot to learn from becoming involved in editing Wikipedia.

((WN)) To close, is there anything you’d like to add to encourage use of Wikipedia for Schools, or to persuade educators to gain a better understanding of Wikipedia?

AC: I would encourage people to feed back to the project online or via the charity. The Wikipedia community set out to help educate the world and are broadly incredibly well motivated to help. As soon as we understand what can be done to improve things people are already on the task.

((WN)) Thank you for your time.

Wal-Mart owes back taxes, according to State of Wisconsin

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

According to the state of Wisconsin, Wal-Mart has avoided paying millions of dollars in state taxes by paying rent on 87 Wisconsin properties. The Wisconsin State Department of Revenue call this behavior “abusive and distortion of income.”

Wal-Mart is doing this by setting up one subsidiary to run all its stores and setting up another subsidiary to own its real estate. The operating subsidiary then pays the rental cost to the real estate subsidiary and takes a tax deduction for the rent. This money will, however, end up in the corporation’s own pocket.

As a result of Wal-Mart’s actions, the state tax auditors say that Wal-Mart owes more than $17.7 million in back corporate income taxes, interest and penalties from 1998-2000.

The Wal-Mart corporation claims that they are doing nothing wrong, rather they are taking advantage of an overlap of state and federal tax laws in an effort to reduce their taxes and costs.

Demonstrators protest Condoleezza Rice’s trip to Australia

Thursday, March 16, 2006

Anti-war demonstrators in Sydney, Australia on Thursday dubbed U.S. Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice a “war criminal” and “murderer.” Two protesters were evicted and five people were arrested during protests against the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Dr Rice, on a three-day trip to Australia, said she understood why people found it hard to be positive about Iraq when all they saw on their television screens was violence.

Soon after Rice began her speech at the University of Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music, two protesters shouted from the rear of the auditorium, “Condoleezza Rice, you are a war criminal,” and “Iraqi blood is on your hands and you cannot wash that blood away.” Standing with their palms towards her, the young man and woman repeated their accusation until security intervened to remove them from the hall.

About 15 minutes into Rice’s address, a third protester appeared at a balcony door, interrupting her speech as she referred to freedom. “What kind of freedom are you talking about? You are a murderer,” said the demonstrator before he was quietly escorted from the hall. “I’m very glad to see that democracy is well and alive here at the university,” she said.

In her speech, Rice sought to justify the U.S. occupation of Iraq, describing Iraqis as now more free. One student asked about abuses committed by U.S. forces at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. She said the abuses had made her “sick to her stomach.” However, she defended Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where human rights groups say detainees are held in inhumane conditions and in detention flouting international laws.

Before Rice began her speech, about 50 protesters were gathered at the front gates of the Conservatorium. The group were confronted by police on horseback and by police dogs. Police used the horses to charge into the group of activists and push them back, as a police helicopter hovered.

A police spokeswoman said the group was blocking pedestrian access to the building and that police had spent more than 20 minutes warning them to move. The police then moved in and pushed the crowd back 20 metres. Police say five people have been charged with “hindering police in the execution of their duties.”

The “Stop the War Coalition” says Rice is a “war criminal” and is not welcome in Australia. The group’s spokeswoman, Anna Samson, says the protest is one of many planned in the lead-up to the third anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq on March 20.

Paddy Gibson, from the University of Sydney’s Student’s Council, says the protest is in opposition to the Iraq war, and to the use of the University of Sydney’s campus to host Rice, “the most powerful woman in the world,” who they say is a war criminal. “They’re saying, ‘… you’ve got Sydney Uni’s support to stand up and peddle your murderous hate speeches,’ which is what we see it,” he said.

“You’ve got 180,000 people killed, as we said, for no other reason than strategic control of the region’s oil resources. And the anti-Muslim racism that’s been whipped up to justify this war is being felt by Sydney University students,” said Mr Gibson.

Dog flu spreads across the US

Saturday, October 15, 2005

Dogs are normally resistant to most flu strains. Since about 2000, a new strain of dog flu has been spreading in America, and there’s no vaccine to prevent it.

To limit exposure to the flu, some dog owners are avoiding public places like dog shows and parks. Since the flu can spread where groups of dogs are housed, some dog owners are nervous about the practice of putting their pets in kennels. According to Edward Dubovil, director of the animal virology lab at Cornell University, 100% of dogs appear to be susceptible to infection by this new flu strain. It is estimated that 1-5% of infected dogs are dying from this flu strain. The symptoms of dog flu are akin to those of kennel cough, a more common and less serious illness.

Starting in 2004 there have been many outbreaks of flu at dog race tracks. Since early in 2004, researchers have been working to characterize the type of flu that is infecting dogs. In September of 2005 it was reported that this dog flu strain had crossed over from horses to dogs. This type of flu virus has been infecting horses for at least 40 years. It is expected that existing flu vaccines for horses can soon be adapted for use in dogs.

The spread of a horse flu virus to dogs is an example of what could happen with bird flu. Currently the bird flu is transmitted from birds to humans but does not spread easily from person to person. The new strain of dog flu shows signs of having been genetically modified from the original horse-preferring virus strain making it easy to transmit from dog to dog. Future genetic modifications of bird flu could better adapt it to humans and allow it to spread from person to person. The chance of such viral evolution can be reduced by limiting exposure of humans to bird flu.

At this time, the new dog flu virus strain does not seem to be a danger for humans. However, humans will be monitored for signs of infection by new genetic variants of the dog flu. Due to the close physical association between pet dogs and humans, a flu strain that could jump from dogs to humans would be of great concern. Recently evolved virus strains that jump from one species to another are often particularly lethal because the newly infected species may have little or no immunity to the new virus strain.

The Importance Of A Good Website Design

Submitted by: Todd Herman

First and foremost, the Alberta website designers must make it apparent that the website is a commercial venture. Poor web development, for example, may be loaded with lots of cool graphics and interesting text but the actual items that are for sale are presented in a peripheral manner as opposed to the focus of the site. Needless to say, such website development is very weak and will not facilitate any profits.

When enacted properly, good Alberta website design looks like a work of art. That is because there is tremendous skill required to design a website. When visitors to a site see that is has been properly designed they will react positively to the site. For those who operate a commercial site this is a critical point to note. Poor website development will significantly reduce the potential to make sales because visitors won t stay on the site long enough to make conversions viable.

Imagine if you were a visitor to a site and quickly discovered that the site was a slap dash site loaded with web development disasters. That is, the website was cluttered with text, limited in the amount of graphics it possessed, and filled with annoying pop up ads. Would that even remotely sound like good website design? Hardly! In fact, it would seem that the website designers either didn’t know what they were doing or they flat out didn’t care. In such a case, visitors to the site may very well look at the site and think “Well, if the web publisher doesn’t care then I don’t care.” Needless to say, such of visitor will depart the site within a very short period of time.

It is also important to point out here that visitors will not separate the low quality work of the website designers from the website’s publisher. They are not going to say “I think I will waste 20 minutes on this confusing website because I am sure the publisher meant well.” No, they are simply going to be dismissive of a website as amateur hour. Clearly, this will shatter the confidence in the visitor in regards to the individual who is publishing the site. This is understandable. What decent level of confidence can a poorly composed website provide? The answer is obvious: ZERO!

If consumer confidence is shattered then it is highly doubtful that the customers will even remote agree to a purchase. If the website design is awful then how could the products sold be any better? Even if the website publisher has a sincerely outstanding product, poor website design will completely undermine his ability to promote his wares. This is an undeniable fact web development publishers need to be fully aware of!

Of course, the inverse is true as well. If solid website designers are employed and they do a solid website design job then the ability for a website to be commercially successful will be possible.

Because so much commerce is conducted on the internet, the demand for website designers has increased. Now, there are so many designers out there that deals are easier to come by. Considering the low cost options available for hiring a affordable, website designer, there is really no reason to avoid putting one on the proverbial payroll!
